Family, love, loss, overcoming the past

My first book by Maisey Yates and I’m coming into this series at book 13. I didn’t feel too lost this far into the series though I couldn’t figure out why Jake was so hurt over his parents death as it wasn’t recent. There seems to be more to their death circumstance than I got from this book. I did adore the character Jake; Callie was not a favorite, but the characters worked for me. I liked their chemistry together. The book didn’t read as smooth as I would have liked until later in the story. This is a story that centers on past heartbreak, taking a chance on love, and letting that love heal you.
