Journalist Karly Bonham is on her first overseas mission, covering the new United States ambassador to Thailand, when she is taken hostage by terrorists, with only her wits and courage to keep her alive–until help arrives in the form of Navy SEAL Ethan Dunn. As part of an elite SEAL team called Alpha Crew, Ethan has been on countless harrowing missions, but he knows this one is different the instant he meets Karly—the sexy young reporter who somehow managed to escape the terrorists’ clutches. Ethan is impressed by her, especially when he learns she has intel that could be the key to a successful rescue op. Ethan knows working with a civilian raises the stakes on an already dangerous mission. But with the clock ticking down, he enlists Karly’s help to thwart a vicious plot and bring a terrorist mastermind to justice. Featuring Laura Griffin’s signature “heart pounding, nerve-jangling suspense, combined with sizzling sex” (Fresh Fiction), Cover of Night is a fast-paced, romantic thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

I grew up in Houston and am heartbroken to see the devastation there. My parents and many friends lost their homes in the flooding. I am donating the author proceeds from September sales of COVER OF NIGHT to the American Red Cross Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. So if you buy the book this month, or if you preordered it, you will be helping displaced people in Texas and Louisiana in their effort to recover and rebuild. Thank you! ~ Laura Griffin

BY John W. Kurtze

COVER OF NIGHT’s storyline is full of action on every page as the Seal team responds to a call for help from Laura Griffin’s female protagonist Karly Bonham, who is a magazine reporter, working an assignment at a private resort in Thailand.  When a group of terrorists attacks the resort to kidnap the American ambassador, Karly is able to make a desperate call for help hoping her call went through before she goes into hiding.  Griffin gives readers Karly’s backstory including her ongoing desire to prove her value.

The Alpha Seal team is sent to eliminate the terrorist threat and rescue the Ambassador and his party.  During the Seal team rescue mission, Griffin introduces her male protagonist Ethan Dunn, a dedicated member of the Seal team.  Ethan discovers Karly hiding from the terrorists. Ethan finds it difficult to keep Karly out of the rescue mission when she shows Ethan and his team she has information that will help save the ambassador.  Karley demonstrates to the Ethan that even when she is afraid she shows determination and commitment to keep fighting.

Griffin introduces several support characters who keep the momentum of the plot moving forward as well as building intrigue and suspense.  The author follows Karly as she deals with her FBI debriefing of the terrorist attack.  Even though Karley and Ethan intend to avoid each other, they find circumstances seem to keep pushing them towards each other.  Ethan tries to convince himself that Karly’s attraction to him is her reaction her rescue. Karly feels a connection but doesn’t think Ethan has any interest in her.   Griffin’s sub plots keep the direction of her story.  She describes how the FBI’s unfolding investigation uncovers a wanted terrorist is behind the ambassador’s kidnapping attempt.

COVER OF NIGHT’s storyline moves the action back to San Diego, following Ethan and Karly back home.  The FBI’s ongoing investigation uncovers clues showing the terrorist responsible for the resort attack is someone Karly can identify and that she may be in danger. The author captivates her readers placing them in the middle of the action as Ethan works to keep Karly safe.  Griffin builds a sense of urgency putting her readers on pins and needles know that time is running out for Ethan and Karly to stop an imminent attack.  She increases the intrigue keeping readers turning the page to find out what is going to happen.
