Flirting with Fifty by Jane Porter
Berkley (May 24, 2022)
A sexy and sparkling later-in-life contemporary romance about a woman who leaps out of her comfort zone and takes a chance on love by New York Times bestselling author Jane Porter.
Paige Newsom is finally at a place in her life where she’s comfortable. She loves her job as a college professor in Southern California, lives close enough to her mother to visit her regularly, and has three daughters who are flourishing in their own careers. Paige has no plans to upend her life again after her divorce eight years ago, but she’s about to embark on a new adventure: co-teaching a course that includes a three-week international field study.
Paige can think of a dozen reasons why she shouldn’t go, one being a dazzling Australian biologist who will be teaching alongside her. Professor Jack King is charismatic, a world traveler, and more like Indiana Jones than Indiana Jones, all of which unsettles Paige, who prides herself on being immune to any man’s charms. She isn’t looking for love, and it turns out, neither is he. But as the two co-professors lead the rigorous program together, first on campus, then in beautiful Tanzania, their biggest challenge will be working closely together while resisting the undeniable chemistry they feel when they’re with each other.

REVIEW
I really enjoyed the characters in this second chance at love story. Their chemistry was instant, but the relationship and romance took time. Paige was hesitant to try love again and had insecurities of herself as a woman. Jack is confident, had a positive outlook and I loved that he added some change to her life and got her out of her comfort zone. Their trip to Tanzania was well written. An enjoyable contemporary romance!

The Modern Love Series, Book 2
Berkley (November 29, 2022)
A woman expecting to spend the holidays alone finds warmth in the iciest man she knows in this steamy and charming later-in-life romance by New York Times bestselling author Jane Porter.
It’s been five years since Andi McDermott lost her husband, and she’s finally starting to feel like herself again, ready to live fully—she’s even started dating again. But when her holiday plans with her stepson and his fiancée fall through, she refuses to spend another Christmas alone while everyone is celebrating with their families. Impulsively, she decides to go up to her cabin in Lake Arrowhead, a place she used to love to visit but hadn’t gone to in years, not since the feud started between her husband and their nearest neighbor.
Andi starts to rethink her decision when being alone at the cabin proves to be more challenging than she expected—a heavy snowstorm hits the area, and Andi finds herself trapped there with no one to help except for her neighbor, Wolf Enders. A military vet who lives full-time on Lake Arrowhead, Wolf is as grumpy and intimidating as Andi remembers. But he’s also unexpectedly kind and uncomfortably sexy—his presence reminds Andi that she may be older, but her body still works perfectly fine, thank you very much. But can this good girl tame this sexy beast of a man, and will this snowy fling turn into a love of a lifetime?

REVIEW
“It might have taken Dad a decade plus, but he finally stormed the castle, and got the girl.”
I love romance stories that have the big, strong, moody/grumpy hero. They are usually very tenderhearted and very protective. There’s usually a reason for they behavior – a lack of love growing up. Wolf is certainly this and more. He’s borderline cruel. I wasn’t sure I really liked him. I understood him, but man he made it tough to love him. While he is the Beast, Andie is definitely the beauty and she tried to tame her beast. She is kind, loving, and nurturing. While she may have been content with her first marriage, Wolf awakens her to a new kind of love. Andie and Wolf were so right for each other. I what I loved the most, was the Andie ended up with a new family to love and to love her. (that may have been a spoiler, but most romance novels end in HEA right?). Written with a lot of emotion and character depth, a Jane Porter trait, she has balanced their individual characteristics so that they are perfectly suited for each other and it makes sense. It is also a bit of a heavy read with some tough topics (family drama, death, mental health, infertility) but a good amount of female friendship and a wonderful steamy romance. This can be read as a stand-alone novel. It is book 2 in Modern Love series which features older characters who fall in love.
I highly recommend Flirting With the Beast to anyone who enjoys romance books, especially those with older age characters.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I write both romance and women’s fiction, and I write in both genres because the stories matter, because women matter and families matter, and love matters very, very much. I love the very strong heroes because I grew up with some really strong women in my family. Even today, it has continued to surprise me that men sometimes are a bit baffled that I want to be so successful, that I have ambition, that I’m willing to work this hard.
