REVIEW
“You still are the girl you’ve always been. Remember that. Everything is going to be fine.”
I met Tonya Royston at a local holiday craft fair. I could not pass by her table with her beautiful book covers on display. Young Adult/Paranormal is not my usual reading genres but I as I listened to Tonya talk about her books I was intrigued. After going back and forth from deciding which series to start with (besides the Gypsy Magic trilogy she has written The Sunset Trilogy) I decided on this one. I should have just bought all of them because I know I’m going to enjoy the others too.
Gypsy Magic is an engaging, well-written story. I liked that the female lead, Gracyn, is a smart high school senior who works hard to get good grades. She’s having to adjust to a whole new life in a new state. Her boyfriend, who is in a rock band, is also smart. Gracyn’s world has become very complicated soon after she moves to her sisters house. A suspected child killer comes back to town (her new neighbor), her new friend’s behavior has changed, and she’s finding she has enhanced senses. I won’t divulge details so that I don’t ruin the book for you.
Once I hit mid-point in the book the pages flew by. I feel this is more of an introduction of what’s to come for Gracyn in the series as she learns more of what she is and what she can do. There is a good plot twist. The characters are interesting and I look forward to how they develop further in the next two books in the trilogy.
I recommend this to those who enjoy young adult reads with paranormal aspects.
