As if that isn’t enough, her senses begin to change in ways that aren’t physically possible. As hard as she tries to find an explanation, there isn’t one. Gracyn soon learns that things are not what they appear to be. Even her sister who took her in is hiding something. Will Gracyn continue pursuing her goal of getting accepted to a top-notch university, or will the secrets of the past and present ruin her future?

“You still are the girl you’ve always been. Remember that. Everything is going to be fine.”

I met Tonya Royston at a local holiday craft fair. I could not pass by her table with her beautiful book covers on display. Young Adult/Paranormal is not my usual reading genres but I as I listened to Tonya talk about her books I was intrigued. After going back and forth from deciding which series to start with (besides the Gypsy Magic trilogy she has written The Sunset Trilogy) I decided on this one. I should have just bought all of them because I know I’m going to enjoy the others too.

Gypsy Magic is an engaging, well-written story. I liked that the female lead, Gracyn, is a smart high school senior who works hard to get good grades. She’s having to adjust to a whole new life in a new state. Her boyfriend, who is in a rock band, is also smart. Gracyn’s world has become very complicated soon after she moves to her sisters house. A suspected child killer comes back to town (her new neighbor), her new friend’s behavior has changed, and she’s finding she has enhanced senses. I won’t divulge details so that I don’t ruin the book for you.

Once I hit mid-point in the book the pages flew by. I feel this is more of an introduction of what’s to come for Gracyn in the series as she learns more of what she is and what she can do. There is a good plot twist. The characters are interesting and I look forward to how they develop further in the next two books in the trilogy.

I recommend this to those who enjoy young adult reads with paranormal aspects.

RoystonTonya Royston lives in Northern Virginia with her husband, son, two dogs, and two horses. Although she dreamed of writing novels at a young age, she was diverted away from that path years ago and built a successful career as a contracts manager for a defense contractor in the Washington, DC area. She resurrected her dream of writing in 2013 and hasn’t stopped since the first words of The Sunset Trilogy were unleashed. When she isn’t writing, Tonya spends time with her family. She enjoys skiing, horseback riding, and anything else that involves the outdoors. More information about Tonya and her upcoming endeavors can be found at
