CHERRY BLOSSOM FRIENDS – Corkey Hay DeSimone

I bought this book in 2010 during the Cherry Blossom festival in Washington, DC. I met the author (and of course had her sign my book).

The book is written with dual text; rhyming mostly about the animal friends you might encounter around the Cherry Blossoms and a fact-based section with information about the sites around the nation’s capital.  I personally benefitted from the fact based. There’s history on the Cherry Blossoms and how they came to Washington, DC and history on the buildings and museums around the city. There’s information on the Pagoda and the Stone Lantern that are beside the Tidal Basin, which I noticed both during my visit years ago but didn’t know of the significance (now I do thanks to this book). Overall, I found this a very informative read. The colors and illustrations are beautiful and will keep a child’s attention.

Here are a few pictures from 2016 visit to the Tidal Basin.
